When we started thinking about a mascot for the 17th Pannonian International Symposium on Catalysis, we wanted it to be friendly and memorable, but also to capture something of the spirit of our conference. And so PannoCat was born – a name combining Pannonian and Catalysis, with an obvious playful reference to CAT – the cat.
PannoCat is a little catalytic cat with science built into his design. The hexagonal structures on his body represent catalytic surfaces and materials, the molecule in his paw symbolizes chemical reactions, and his arrow-shaped tail points in the direction of a reaction – and, at the same time, towards new discoveries.
The number 17 marks PannoCat’s first appearance at the 17th Pannonian International Symposium on Catalysis. Above all, however, his mission reflects what PISC is about: bringing together people, ideas and science – and perhaps helping a few reactions along the way.
